The Producer's Guild is justifiably concerned over the many types of producers in television today. So, at present, they (strongly) oppose the modern term of a producing editor.
But when the editor is doing the job of two or three producers, shouldn't they get producer's credit?
Why it okay that ...
...'story producers' are merely transcribers of what the editor has edited ...
...'segment producers' merely make sure the editor "got the memo" ...
...'supervising producers' merely ask the story producers and segment producers how the editor is doing ...
...but they claim editors cannot be called producing editors or preditors? The only justification can be that they are hanging onto obsolete job titles that are redundant. It's only a matter of time that producing editors get the respect and credit they've earned.
